3rd Annual Winter Theater Weekend – Professor Biggs @ Old Globe Theater Balboa Park
Feb 10 @ 3:00 pm – Feb 12 @ 4:00 pm

olg-globe-balboa-parkCome join Professor Murray Biggs for the 3rd Annual Educational Theater Weekend

The program is designed for both Yale alumni and anyone else interested in high-quality theater.

This weekend is a 48-hour theatrical immersion:

  • Friday afternoon, 3:00 on February 10. An introduction to the Friday evening play, Picasso at the Lapin Agile, Steve Martin’s witty imagination of a meeting between Picasso and Einstein (and various others) at the legendary Montmartre cabaret. This will be staged at the renowned Old Globe Theatre in Balboa Park. A group dinner is included.
  • Saturday morning, 9:30-11:30, is given to a group review of last night’s production, followed by my lead-in to the evening performance, just yards from our hotel, of a scintillating recent American play provocatively titled Bad Jews, by the rising Joshua Harmon.
  • Sunday morning, 9:30-11:30, begins with what’s sure to be a lively group review of this production and ends with a preface to the afternoon performance of Tchaikowsky at the San Diego Rep. This is a work conceived and performed by the extraordinary Hershey Felder, whose gifts as actor, writer, director, and pianist need no words from me.

Our hotel will again be the Hacienda-style Best Western Plus (a delightful discovery) in the heart of Old Town and its Mexican scene.

The charge for double occupancy is $950 per person and $1,100 for single occupancy. For those not requiring hotel accommodation, the cost is $800 per person. These are total prices include:

Friday and Saturday night hotel accommodation as needed
Saturday and Sunday hotel breakfast, and light refreshments at meetings
Friday dinner
scripts of both plays for reading in advance
three introductory presentations
tickets to three performances
van service to and from theaters as necessary

a visit from an actor in, or director of, one of our productions.
