The Yale community in San Diego is a large one with a wide variety of interests. Many of the events hosted or sponsored by the YCSD originate out of a special interest by one or more Yalies who want to share their interests with others. Some have direct links to Yale and AYA. There are several such special interest groups within the YCSD already:

There are more than 2000 Yale alumni and affiliates in the San Diego area. Many of them have offered to assist Yale students and alumni who are in San Diego or contemplating moving to the area with job searches and career changes. Those alumni who have offered to help are part of the Career Counseling Resource Network for San Diego, created by the authority of the Board of Governors of the Association of Yale Alumni (AYA).

Yale’s Career Counseling Resource Network is not a job placement service, but the alumni listed can assist students and alumni by providing insight into a particular field, information about the overall climate for the field in a particular geographical area, or the names of other contacts in the field. The database is organized by both occupation and industry. To learn more about how to use the Career Counseling Resource Network and contact these willing alumni, contact Bob Longstreth at treasurer@yaleclubofsandiego.org.

The AYA also maintains an online Yale Career Network, which can be accessed from a link from AYA’s home page. At present, the online Yale Career Network database is not as robust as the Career Counseling Resource Network’s database, particularly for contacts in the San Diego area, but interested students and alumni are urged to consult both resources.

Under the past leadership of Yalie and avid biker/hiker Sam Marcus (’58), members of the San Diego Yale Club have hiked and biked throughout San Diego County.  Past and prospective future hikes include Cowles Mountain, Torrey Pines State Reserve, Stonewall Peak, Garnet Peak, and other areas in Cuyamaca State Park and the Cleveland National Forest. Bike rides include Mission Bay, Pacific Beach, Coronado Island and Miramar Reservoir, staying off public streets as much as possible.  We regret that no backpacking trips to rugged coastlines have yet been scheduled!

If you are interested in joining us, please contact the club at yaleclubofsandiego@gmail.com or through our facebook page.

Join us as trivia teams from Yale and Harvard take on Oxford and Cambridge in our Crown vs Colonies challenges!  Compete at the trivia contest we hold with the Harvard Club during halftime as we watch The Game!  Join local Yalies for fun and drinks at local pubs!  Look for announcements in the YCSD newsletters and on our website’s events page for the next contest.
